ABELHA MUKAKI is a lighting and furniture brand that celebrates Portuguese craftsmanship through a contemporary lens.

Founded in 2013, it emerged from a collaboration between the North and South of Portugal. In Lisbon, Rita Mongiardim, a senior interior designer with a background in classical and contemporary dance and Art Design and Crafts. In Oporto, Manuela Pais, a production and project leader who, in 2014, took charge of a brass workshop, dedicating herself to preserving and innovating traditional craftsmanship. From this partnership, with a mission to create a heritage where design meets the soul of tradition was born ABELHA MUKAKI – Design for a legacy.

Over time, the drive to revive artisanal techniques led the brand to expand beyond brass, engaging master artisans from different fields to craft pieces that seamlessly blend innovation with heritage. Each creation transcends mere function, becoming a work of art—sculptures that inhabit spaces, carrying the rich historical, cultural, and artistic legacy of Portuguese Culture, Architecture and Decorative Arts.

Today, ABELHA MUKAKI continues its journey under the creative vision of Rita Mongiardim, while Manuela's legacy endures in the courage and dedication that helped shape the brand. Inspired by nature, art, beauty, movement and momentum we remain committed to transforming visions into reality.
